GLF West Sussex Teaching School Hub NPQ Facilitator Recruitment Process
Background
Designated by the Department for Education (DfE) in February 2021 GLF West Sussex Teaching School Hub offers support to all schools in West Sussex and across our GLF schools.
The Teaching School Hub remit covers all phases and types of schools with the following core golden thread activities:
● Delivery of Initial Teacher Training (ITT)
● Delivery of the Early Career Framework (ECF)
● Providing Appropriate Body (AB) services for Early Career Teachers
● Delivery of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)
● Other Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
On aspect of our work is the delivery of NPQ programmes across the Teaching School Hub area. Who are our NPQ providers?
National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)
GLF West Sussex Teaching School Hub work with two providers to deliver the reformed suite of NPQs.
The reformed suite of NPQs is designed to offer the best possible support to teachers and leaders wanting to expand their knowledge and develop their skills, helping them to become more effective teachers and leaders inside and outside the classroom. The programmes are delivered through a blend of in-person and online sessions.
Teach First, a DfE accredited national provider, are used for;

Best Practice Network, a DfE accredited national provider, are used for;
- NPQEL
- NPQH
- NPQSL
- NPQLT
- NPQLTD
- NPQLBC
- NPQSENCO
What is the role of an NPQ facilitator?
Facilitators will:
• Deliver agreed elements of the NPQ programme based on capacity and expertise
• Receive high quality training and support to deliver agreed elements
NPQ facilitators will be working on specific specialist or leadership programmes lasting between 12 and 18 months, delivering a series of face-to-face and online sessions using materials prepared. The time commitment varies according to the programme. Dates are determined by you as the facilitator, in conjunction with the TSH.
Part of the Facilitation role includes live, online attendance at training delivered by Teach First at the start of the cohort and also the TSH at the start of the cohort and at the mid point. Content at these sessions includes facilitator expectations, information about the provider and other information eg content links, best practice and training access.
The content for NPQ programmes are supplied by the lead providers; Teach First and BPN. Facilitators will receive access to this content in advance of the session they are facilitating so that they can engage with the online content in advance.
Facilitators should be experienced and enthusiastic and will need to supplement the material with contextualisation and real examples to make the material relatable and understood by the programme members.
What skills are needed to facilitate?
For NPQs, applications from experienced teachers, middle leaders, senior leaders are all welcomed however they need to have held/currently hold a position at least commensurate with the programme on which you wish to facilitate.
General experience, skills and knowledge needed for all NPQ facilitation:

Specific skills and Experience Needed to facilitate specific NPQ programmes:
NPQLT | An excellent leader of mathematics in primary settings with a good understanding of Teaching for Mastery and the latest evidence-based research into effective pedagogical practices |
NPQSENCO |
An experienced SENCO with up-to-date and robust knowledge of best practice and evidence-based research in SEND. In-depth understanding of the statutory framework for SEND, identification of SEND, and leading and managing provision. Has completed the National Award for SEN coordination, (NASENCO) or similar Master’s level qualification in Inclusion / SEND Experience of being a SENCO in a senior leadership team, demonstrating the ability to influence whole-school teaching, curriculum and behaviour policy and practice |
NPQEYL | An excellent headteacher of a school-based nursery or manager of PVI nursery or childminder with significant leadership responsibilities. |
NPQSL | An excellent headteacher or senior leader with a good understanding of the specific domain area being facilitated. |
NPQH |
An experienced and successful headteacher who has led sustainable school improvement and has a good understanding of the latest evidence-based research into effective school leadership Or An expert with specialist expertise in a key area (e.g. governance). |
NPQEL |
An experienced and successful executive headteacher, CEO or equivalent who has led sustainable school improvement across schools and has a good understanding of the latest evidence-based research into effective school leadership Or An expert with specialist expertise in a key area across schools (e.g. governance) |
Payment
GLF West Sussex Teaching School Hub pay facilitators for each professional development session delivered. In addition to this, attendance at training is paid and a one-off payment for preparatory work is awarded. Recruitment Process
As a Delivery Partner for Teach First and BPN, we are responsible for recruiting, managing and assuring the quality of all facilitators.
The recruitment process will involve:
• Completion of an ‘Expression of Interest’ to include an indication of which Programme/s are of interest and an outline of your experience
• A reference from a line manager outlining your suitability for the post.
