West Sussex Teaching School Hub

GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

GLF Schools Teacher Training Commitment to Trainee Teacher Well-being

GLF Schools Teacher Training Team is committed to protecting and enhancing our colleagues' mental health and well-being, especially our trainees.

All GLF Teaching School Hub staff, including our entire SCITT team, are trained in Mental Health First Aid by Mental Health First Aid England and are all practising Mental Health First Aiders.

GLF Teaching School Hub colleagues are determined to equip our staff with the skills to support their own andMental Health first Aider others' well-being, and this determination runs through everything we do like a stick of rock.

Resilience is essential for a successful teacher who thrives in the profession. We also know that training to be a teacher and learning new skills can be challenging, especially if life throws you a few curveballs simultaneously. We believe resilience can be both taught and learned.

At GLF Schools Teacher Training, we aim to openly discuss and support mental health and well-being in our teacher training courses. We are an organisation where everyone can feel valued, listened to, and thrive.

As a GLF Schools Trainee Teacher, you will have access to:

  • Our trained mental health first aiders when needed. Our whole SCITT team are equipped with a range of bespoke support resources and can signpost the relevant, high-quality additional support
  • Regular well-being check-ins with all of our trainees.
  • Robust processes are in place to signpost if you or others need support, and a trained DSL Designated Safeguarding Lead and GLF TSH Well-Being Lead are required.
  • A trainee teacher well-being representative who can be on hand to talk to.
  • A well-being conference will give you strategies for establishing a positive work/life balance and building resilience as you learn to be a fantastic teacher.
  • On-going support from your school-based mentor.
  • Access to an education-focused counselling service for confidential conversations when required.
